This stunning , Arts and Crafts style sterling pendant is accompanied by a sterling silver chain. It is marked for the MMA – Metropolitan Museum of Arts so might originally have been offered in their shop in New York . This one is difficult to date but my best guess is circa the 1960’s /70’s.
The large pendant measures 2 and 5/8” (6.8cms) across. The accompanying chain is 18” (44cms) long. Together with the pendant it weighs 35.8 grams – so is very substantial.
The chain is very attractive with alternating silver and silver gilt decorative links. It has a toggle and loop closure.
The cruciform pendant is gold washed on sterling silver. It is embellished with green enamel stems and leaves with red flowers , probably poppies. It is very reflective of the Arts and Crafts movement.
The reverse is plain and marked ‘MMA Sterling’.
This piece certainly makes a great statement and the chain complements it beautifully.
It is in excellent vintage condition with all the enamel intact. It will arrive in a gift box.
