This lovely child, which I believe to be a female, is sitting on her white rocking or hobby horse. The photo dates from the middle of the 19th Century and is done on tin. It is known as a tintype. the child has on a dark colored dress with a white lace collar and her horse is white. I've photographed the tintype both with and without flash, as it is somewhat difficult to take good pictures of these tintypes without reflections while under their glass preservers.
The tintype comes cased in a 1/6 plate leather case. The case has a pretty embossed front and back cover. It has a single latch closure and red velvet pad. It has a replaced leather hinge. It measures 3 3/4" by 3 1/4", a standard sixth plate size. Both tintype and case are in fine antique condition.
