A wonderful folk art memory ware wall plaque made for Civil War veteran, John Luke, of the Mass 1st Infantry, Company H, by his family for his birthday, circa 1913. The newspaper article in the center of the plaque describes the celebration and history of John Luke in the Civil War, with a photo of him in uniform. During the Civil War from 1861-1865, he fought at the battles of Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, Cedar Swamp, Fredericksburg, and 2nd Bull Run, under the leadership of General Joseph Hooker in "Hooker's Brigade". The plaque is embellished with military buttons, bullet casings, bottles, belt buckles, pocket mirrors, tin cups, a Mass State House embossed tray, and other memorabilia and artifacts embedded into the border - a great piece of historical folk art with loads of family sentiment! The plaque is mounted to a thick board for wall display and is in very good overall condition, with some toning and yellowing of the newspaper article, minor artifact losses, and great overall patina. A great piece of Massachusetts Civil War historical memorabilia! Dimensions: 26 ½” H x 11 ½” W x 3” D. Ref: 8
