This is the ultimate marine lover's gift - important historically, classy, handsome and uniquely rare!
Offered here, is this handsome original yacht's wheel created by the Wheeler Ship Yard at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York between 1930 and 1935. It is made of solid teak wood and has a beautiful thick brass plate around the entire circumference on the front side. It measures a full 25 inches from tip to tip. Impressed upon the brass plate is "Wheeler Ship Yard" and "Brooklyn, N.Y." This Motor Yacht Helm's wheel retains its marine varnish finish and is ready to be placed anywhere you would like it to go. Any area of writing that appears to be defective in the photos are the areas where the brass screws adhere the brass plate to the wooden wheel.
The Wheeler Ship Yard was known for building the highest quality yachts of the time. In fact, it was the yacht of choice for Ernest Hemingway, who loved the adventure of boating and fishing. His yacht, Pilar, is considered to be the most famous wooden fishing boat of all time.
Wheeler Ship Yard is long out of business but you can still own a piece of their esteemed history.
The yacht this wheel came from was likely to have been called into use by the coast guard during WWII.
