Rare Large Jean Pouyat (JPL) Limoges HP Red Currants Covered Bowl & Underplate Charger
Ca. 1900▪ Hallmarked ▪ France
A rare and stunning estate piece that is hard to find and rarely seen. This is a large J. P. Limoges France low-footed covered bowl with lid and underplate/platter that has been skillfully hand decorated in house. Art Nouveau design, featuring vibrant bunches of dark orange-red currants with full green leaves hanging from a single vine on palest yellow ground, encircling the rims of each piece. Vibrant gold trim on each piece and ring on the bowl's shallow foot. Backmarked J. P. L. France factory and J. Pouyat Limoges in-house decorating marks, in use between 1890 and 1932, and hand painted red decoration #237. Condition is very good. Minor ware to gilt and small "smudge" on plate that is very hard to see, but is there upon intense inspection. (See photos 13 & 14). Small glaze skip under rim of underplate/charger. (See photo 12). No chips, cracks or repairs, and has a very nice ping tone. Shows beautifully. Photos are provided as additional descriptors. A wonderful addition to a serious collection, wedding gift, or that for any special occasion.
